Labial Reduction

Labial reduction, or labiaplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that reduces the size of the labia. Women choose to have this procedure for various reasons including to ease discomfort from clothing or physical activity, for hygiene reasons or because they are self-conscious about the appearance.

How is Labial Reduction Performed?

This procedure can be performed under local anesthetic or with patients asleep in the operating room. Incisions are made on the labia to remove the excess skin and redundant tissue. This can be done along the length of the labia or as a central wedge. The wounds are closed with dissolving sutures and a dressing applied.

Recovery following Labial Reduction

Patients go home the day of the procedure. Daily antibiotic ointment is applied to the wounds. The sutures fall out within 2 weeks. Patients are able to perform light activities for the first 3 weeks. Full recovery is 6 weeks following the procedure and sexual intercourse is permitted at that time.
